The courier brought our passports and visa applications to the Chinese Consulate this morning, so I'm expecting to have them back in my hands by next Friday at the latest.
I received 2 notarized copies of the Homestudy Update in the mail today and tomorrow I'll send that overnight with a "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO THIS QUICKLY" letter and an overnight return mailer to the USCIS in San Antonio, but I'm fairly certain I'll be taking a drive down there again sometime before 7/10 to get the updated I-171H.
I can't seem to wrap my brain around a final packing list, but I'm trying. I keep seeing Swiss Army Knife on lists, but I'm almost 42 years old and have never had an occassion to need one before, so I don't know why I would need one in China. Any ideas?

Yes... I keep hearing about the Swiss army knife or Lethermans.... I would guess that there will be times when you just might need to tighten a screw on a toy, or something to pry off a lid or open a can or cutting something like a tag off of things???? I have also heard to bring some clothes pins and a rope for hanging up laundry... at least it couldn't hurt... I have heard to forget the thermos bottle cause hot water is available everywhere.... This is one of the things that I am worrying about and I am not LID until March 2006!!!!

Ohh! Good idea on the rope and clothes pins. I keep hearing "laundry is cheap so pack light", but free is better than cheap so handwashing a few things is a good idea. I am bringing a thermos, just in case. Good reasons on the SAK, too. I think I'll bring one just in case. :)
